Chefchaouen, or Chaouen, is a city located in the Rif Mountains in the northwestern region of Morocco. It is renowned for the spectacular blue buildings of various shades in its old town, as well as its steep, cobblestone alleys filled with weaving looms and leather goods shops. In the shaded main square, Uta el Hammam, you'll find the red walls of the kasbah, a 15th-century fortress and dungeon featuring ethnographic exhibits and artworks. The octagonal minaret of the Great Mosque stands nearby.
